Due to his appointment as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the previous President of the University of Gdańsk Council, dr hab. Maciej Duszczyk, prof. UW stepped down. By a decision of the UG Senate of January 25, dr Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak, prof. SGH became a new member of the Council from outside the University community. Prof. Maciej Duszczyk will be replaced as President by dr hab. Dominik Antonowicz, prof. UMK.
Both persons will serve on the Council until the end of the current term of 2021-24. Prof. Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak's candidacy was presented at a meeting of the UG Senate by UG Rector prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. The result of the vote was presented by a scrutiny committee composed of prof. dr hab. Beata Możejko (Faculty of History), dr Tomasz Czuba (Faculty of Economics) and mgr Anna Pauli (Director of the Organisational Office).
The University Council is responsible for, among other things, giving its opinion on the university's draft strategy, monitoring the university's financial management and governance, nominating candidates for rector and giving its opinion on reports on the implementation of the university's strategy.
Prof. Dominik Antonowicz - graduated from the Nicolaus Copernicus University (sociology) and the University of Birmingham (public management), worked at the Centre of Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente and the Centro de Investigação de Políticas do Ensino Superior CIPES at the University of Porto (Portugal). He has also held fellowships from the UK government (Chevening Scholar), NAWA and the Foundation for Polish Science ('Start' and 'Columbus'). (source)
Prof. Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak - Vice-Rector for Science and Director of the SGH Institute of Statistics and Demography. Member of the PAS Committee on Demographic Sciences, leader of the SHARE 50+ Polish research group. In 2008-2009, she was an undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy; she also sat on the supervisory board of the Social Insurance Institution and was a member of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority. Between 2007 and 2009, she was vice-chair of the Social Protection Committee of the European Council. From 2010 to 2017, at the Educational Research Institute, she managed projects related to the preparation of the implementation of the Polish Qualifications Framework.
