Oscar winner Vasilisa Stepanenko in an interview with Neptun TV

‘War is always on my mind, I can't stop thinking about it. Even this morning I read the news that my hometown was attacked by drones. Every day we hear about rocket attacks or air raid alerts(...) This is what every resident of Ukraine is struggling with,’ Oscar winner Vasilisa Stepanenko told Neptun TV in an interview.

Vasilisa Stepanenko, producer of the film '20 Days in Mariupol', which was awarded by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the category 'Best Documentary Feature Film', visited the University of Gdańsk in October 2023 during the Media-Business-Culture Conference, organised periodically by the Institute of Media, Journalism and Social Communication of the University of Gdańsk. Open meetings between media people and students are a regular feature of the conference programme. In 2023, the guest speaker was Vasilisa Stepanenko, who spoke to students about the role of the media today in covering such dramatic events as the war in Ukraine. Stepanenko also gave an extensive interview to UG journalism and social communication students.  In an interview with the University of Gdańsk's Neptun TV Student Scientific Circle, the Ukrainian journalist talks about the beginning of her career, reporting on the tragedy and the sudden change in her perception of the world after February 24, 2022.

The Andrzej Wajda Film Centre of the University of Gdańsk invites you to a screening of the film '20 Days in Mariupol' this Friday, 15.03 at 6.00 p.m. in the UG Main Library.
