The Gdańsk Scientific Society, which continues the tradition of the Society of Friends of Science and Art founded in July 1922 is preparing for the centenary celebrations.
On July 11, 2022, it will be 100 years since the Society of Friends of Science and Art (TPNiS) in Gdansk was founded and registered in the Court of the Second Free City of Gdańsk. The tradition of TPNiS is cultivated by the Gdansk Scientific Society (GTN since 1956) together with the Gdansk Society of the Friends of Art (GTPS), which was established two years later.
- The establishment of TPNiS in Gdańsk a hundred years ago was of great importance for the maintenance of national traditions by the Polish diaspora in interwar Gdańsk, the education of Poles and the development of science. These activities supported by Macierz Polska resulted in the launching of a Polish-language journal "Rocznik Gdański" (TN: Gdańsk Annual) from 1927, which is still published today, - says prof. dr hab. inż. Jerzy Błażejowski, President of the Gdańsk Scientific Society. - I would like to mention that in the times of the First Republic of Poland there was a short-lived Societas Litteraria cuius symbolum virtutis et scientiarum incrementa (1720-1727) and from 1742 a Societas Physicae Experimentalis - the first natural science society, which functioned until 1936 as Die Naturforschende Gesellschaft - adds Prof. Jerzy Błażejowski.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of TPNiS / GTN, a special volume of the "Gdańsk Annual" is planned to be published, containing publications on the activities and achievements of scientific societies connected with Gdańsk and its connections with the development of science in Gdańsk and Pomerania.
- I would like to encourage you to prepare scientific articles or memoirs which will be part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Gdańsk Scientific Society, adds the President of GTN. Information about publishing articles in "Gdańsk Annual" is available on the website.
