The Rector, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, presented the guests with plans for the first stage of the construction of the UG Sports Centre, which is to begin soon. A multi-purpose sports hall will be built to serve not only teaching needs but also the development of both academic and professional sports within our structures.

‘This will also be the venue for the matches of the teams entered in the Academic Leagues competition, a new project by the Ministry of Sport which is ideally suited to the needs of the community,’ said Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski. ‘We recently signed an agreement with Trefl Sopot, as a result of which the team, previously playing as Trefl II Sopot, plays under the name University of Gdańsk Trefl Sopot. We also have an internal dual career programme dedicated to athletes, where we support the best of them regarding their enrolment into university, student residences, and scholarships.’

The construction of the UG Sports Centre will be subsidised by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism with PLN 25 million.
