The Rector of the University of Gdańsk met on Monday with the Consul General of the People's Republic of China, Fan Xiaodong. This is the first visit of the Consul to the University after he took up his post in December last year.
The meeting focused on the cooperation between the University of Gdańsk and the Consulate of the People's Republic of China. The common goal of the University and the Consulate is, among others, to continue the good relations between the institutions through cooperation with Chinese universities, support in the process of mobility and foreign exchange of students, promotion of Chinese culture and language at the university, as well as cooperation with the Confucius Institute dynamically operating at UG.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Gdańsk has been organising Chinese language courses and cultural workshops led by qualified staff since September 2015. The unit is also responsible for conducting certified state language exams and awarding academic Confucian Scholarships, which allow Polish students to travel to China as part of their studies.
The Institute, which has existed for over 5 years at the University of Gdańsk, has organised and supported with patronage several scientific, business and cultural events related to China. Among the most important of these were: the annual "Bridge to the Chinese Language" competition, the cyclical "Kung fu/wushu" conference, Infoglob 2019 (September 2019), the 1st Congress of Representatives of Confucius Institutes and Classes in Poland (May 2019), and the "Around Asia" Travel Festival (February 2020). Additionally, in 2020, the Institute's publishing series "Beyond the Great Wall. Sketches on China", as part of which two monographs on Far Eastern martial arts and the transformation of the Chinese economy were published.
Currently, several public primary schools in the Tri-City area also use the Institute's offer of Chinese language teaching.
