Dr hab. Maciej Duszczyk, prof. UW
From now on I feel I am a fully-fledged member of the broadly understood community of the University of Gdańsk - said dr hab. Maciej Duszczyk, prof. UW, elected today by the University Senate as the Chairman of the University Council. - Remaining an employee of the University of Warsaw, I promise to share my experience in the work of the Council. In these times, the advantages of cooperation between academic communities for the sake of achieving common goals should be strongly emphasised.
At its meeting on January 28, 2021, the Senate of UG elected a new chairman, whose candidacy was proposed on behalf of the University Council by Senator Anna Machnikowska, Prof. UG. No other candidates were put forward. Dr hab. Maciej Duszczyk, prof. UW was elected by 52 votes of Senators (out of 53 voters, with 1 abstention).
The new chairman is a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw and a researcher at the Centre for Migration Research, University of Warsaw. His research interests focus on migration, migration policy, integration policy and the European Union.
During the candidate's presentation, his experience in management in higher education and the European labour market were highlighted. Prof. UW Maciej Duszczyk participated in the creation of the project, which received the highest score in the Excellence Initiative - Research University competition, he also gained experience during its implementation at UW.
The President stresses that the most important thing about holding this position is to be able to use his experience in higher education. Although he represents another university, he does not believe that there is any conflict of interest in this respect. He will be happy to share his knowledge and experience with the UG community. - There is no competition here. I think that my experience and the tasks facing the Council complement each other perfectly, he said.
May we remind you that the Senators elected the members of the University Council for the term 2021-2024 in December last year. The term of the previous University Council ended at the end of 2020. The new one includes 4 persons from outside the University and 2 from UG.
