At the invitation of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, a meeting of the Rector's College with the newly elected Council of the University of Gdańsk for the 2025-2029 term was held on 13 January.

During the meeting, the Rector presented the newly appointed Council members with congratulatory letters and thanked them for their willingness to work for the University of Gdańsk for the next four years. The meeting participants then discussed the future of the University.

The members of the University Council have scheduled their first meeting for 28 January this year. On that day, the UG Council will, among other things, identify representatives of external stakeholders in the University of Gdańsk's Education Evaluation Council.

The University of Gdańsk Council was elected on 20 December 2024. The UG Senate elected the following members:

1) dr hab. Monika Bak, prof. UG, Faculty of Economics UG;

2) dr hab. prof. Piotr Bojarski, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics UG;

3) Agata Grenda, Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre;

4) prof. dr hab. Marcin Gruchała, Medical University of Gdańsk;

5) Katarzyna Gruszecka-Spychała, Port of Gdynia Authority;

6) mec. Andrzej Zwara, Głuchowski Siemiątkowski Zwara Law Firm Advocates and Legal Advisers.

By virtue of the Act of July 20, 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science, student Bartosz Chojnacki, Chairman of the UG Students' Parliament, is also a member of the UG Council.

In accordance with the will of the Senate, prof. Marcin Gruchała became the Chairman of the UG Council.
