The leading ranking agency Times Higher Education has published the results of its global subject rankings - World University Rankings 2026 by Subject - for eleven subjects. The University of Gdańsk was listed in nine rankings - all those in which it was possible to apply for an assessment due to the university's profile.

Our University was among the highest-ranked universities in the following subjects:

  • Arts and Humanities (UG ranked between 601-800 out of 817 classified universities from around the world, including 16 from Poland);
  • Business and Economics (UG ranked 801-1000 out of 1067 classified universities from around the world, including 17 from Poland);
  • Education Studies (UG ranked 601-800 out of 830 classified universities from around the world, including 8 from Poland);
  • Law (UG ranked 301-400 out of 425 classified universities from around the world, including 12 from Poland);
  • Life Sciences (UG ranked 801-1000 out of 1211 classified universities from around the world, including 18 from Poland);
  • Physical Sciences (UG ranked 1001-1250 out of 1497 classified universities from around the world, including 20 from Poland);
  • Psychology (UG ranked 501-600 out of 694 classified universities from around the world, including 10 from Poland);
  • Social Sciences (UG ranked 801-1000 out of 1,202 classified universities from around the world, including 20 from Poland);
  • Computer Sciences (UG ranked 1001+ out of 1,165 classified universities from around the world, including 20 from Poland).

THE WUR by Subject rankings use indicators assessed in the overall THE World University Rankings, with the difference that they are calibrated differently depending on the specific nature of each field of science.

The five main pillars of this assessment are:

  1. Teaching - teaching reputation, student-staff ratio, PhD-to-bachelor's ratio, PhD-to-staff ratio, and institutional income;
  2. Research - academic reputation, income, and research productivity;
  3. Citations - research excellence and impact, publication quality, and citation count;
  4. Industry income - income from scientific research and patents;
  5. International outlook - number of foreign students and staff, and publications in international research teams.
