Równowaga. Prokobieca Firma Roku (Balance. Pro-women company of the year) is a competition promoting Polish companies, non-governmental organisations and public institutions that create a working environment that is equal for everyone, regardless of gender. It recognises organisations whose equality policies go hand in hand with real actions supporting equality and balance in the workplace. The University of Gdańsk received one of three nominations in the public institution category! The winners will be announced on 24 February this year.

‘The nominations are a tribute to those who understand that balance does not happen by itself, but is the result of a long-term strategy and real commitment,’ reads the competition website. Candidates are considered in four categories: Companies with up to 100 employees, Companies with more than 100 employees, Non-governmental organisations and Public institutions.

The organisers appreciated the University of Gdańsk's commitment to building balance and creating a friendly and inclusive work environment. Not only does the University have a Plan for the Implementation of Gender Equality Policy, but it also undertakes numerous activities that effectively promote equality, such as organising the ‘I Include Gender in Research’ competition and the Joanna Schopenhauer Award competition. As one of eleven European universities honoured with the European Commission's EU Award for Gender Equality, we have also signed the Joint Declaration on Gender Equality in Higher Education, Research and Innovation, which aims to further strengthen gender equality at the institutional level, ensure the sustainability of gender equality policy at the European level, and promote gender equality in international cooperation.

In addition to activities related to ensuring gender equality, the University of Gdańsk also strives to create an inclusive working environment for international members of the academic community and for people with disabilities. It also supports access for all employees to training and professional development workshops, undertakes health-promoting activities and promotes measures to improve work-life balance - these criteria are also taken into account in the Równowaga competition.
