On 28 January, QS published the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026, covering 958 universities from across Europe. The University of Gdańsk was once again included in this ranking, improving its position and taking 321st place. It is worth noting that this year's edition of the ranking was much broader, with nearly 300 newly added universities included for the first time.

In 2026, the University of Gdańsk is ahead of 66.6% of all classified European universities, which is a clear improvement compared to previous years, when this result was around 51%. This change reflects the University of Gdańsk's consistent development across all areas of its activity.

UG achieved particularly good results in the area of sustainable development, which is the highest-rated indicator in the ranking. The university scored 87.2 points out of a possible 100, ranking 3rd in the country and 167th in Europe, which means a 44-place improvement in this criterion. There was also a visible improvement in internationalisation, both in the area of research cooperation and education, including student and staff mobility.

Stable position among Polish universities

The QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026 included 40 universities from Poland, 9 more than in the previous ranking. The University of Gdańsk ranked 8th among all evaluated national academic centres and 5th among universities.

At the same time, our university is the highest-ranked among Polish institutions not included in the IDUB programme, classified as the so-called ‘second ten IDUB’, which confirms its strong and stable position in the national higher education system.
