International academic debate on 'Freedom of economic activity in Polish and German legal culture - comparative perspective'

On 24 March 2021, at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdansk, within the framework of the scientific project entitled 'Freedom of economic activity in Polish and German legal culture - a comparative perspective', a scientific debate devoted to the legal conditions of freedom of economic activity in Poland and Germany took place with the participation of academics from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk and the Faculty of Law of the Justus Liebig University in Gießen (JLU).

The debate started with an official welcome to its participants by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, dr hab. Wojciech Zalewski, prof. UG and the Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation of the University of Gdańsk, dr hab. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, prof. UG.

This was followed by introductory lectures by prof. dr Thilo Marauhn and prof. dr hab. Andrzej Powałowski. The first thematic block of the debate was devoted to constitutional and European issues of freedom of economic activity. The following speakers took part in the debate: prof. dr Sven Simon and dr Ayse-Martina Böhringer (Germany), dr Anna Rytel - Warzocha, prof. UG and mgr Aleksandra Szydzik (Poland). The next thematic block included a discussion of the freedom of economic activity from the perspective of economic law and environmental law. Dr Magdalena Jaś - Nowopolska and Daniel Mengeler (on the German side) as well as dr hab. Maciej Nyka, prof. UG and dr Hanna Wolska (on the Polish side) took the floor in this part. The debate ended with a concluding lecture by dr hab. Anna Jurkowska - Zeidler, prof. UG, who moderated the whole debate.

Further comparative research will be continued by project participants on the 'Polish-German Forum for the Exchange of Legal Thought' - a scientific platform created for the project. At the same time, it is also planned to publish a scientific publication, summarising scientific research carried out within the project.

The project is supported by the Polish-German Science Foundation (German: Gefördert aus Mitteln der Deutsch-Polnischen Wissenschaftsstiftung). The project manager on behalf of the University of Gdańsk is dr Hanna Wolska from the Faculty of Law and Administration, and on behalf of the University of Gießen - dr Magdalena Jaś-Nowopolska from the Faculty of Law.
