The University of Gdańsk Publishing House has published a book entitled "Uniwersytet Gdański wobec wyzwań polityki rozwoju regionu pomorskiego. Sposoby prezentacji w mediach". The publication, marking the 50th anniversary of the University, shows the University's contribution to the transformation of the Pomeranian region in the last two decades.
The book has an interdisciplinary character. The authors - prof. Małgorzata Łosiewicz, dr Beata Czechowska-Derkacz (Institute of Media, Journalism and Social Communication, UG) and dr Katarzyna Bałandynowicz-Panfil (Department of Sustainable Market Processes, UG) - by combining their knowledge and experience in the field of communication, media and economics, prepared a publication showing the impact of the University of Gdańsk on the development of the Pomeranian region.
The book contains an analysis of changes in the Pomeranian Region in the last two decades in key areas of building competitive advantage of the region, including higher education. A separate chapter is devoted to the contribution of the University of Gdańsk to these changes through the implementation of regional projects financed by the European Union. A unique value of the publication is the fact that it shows the visibility of the information on the regional projects of the University of Gdańsk in the Pomeranian media. An important part is the analysis of strategic documents of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the University of Gdansk. As a whole, it shows the image of the university, which is part of a coherent and balanced development of the region.
The book was published under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk and is at the same time a part of the publication output related to the 50th anniversary of the University. The introduction to the book was prepared by prof. Krzysztof Bielawski, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Co-operation with the Socio-Economic Environment.
The publication was created as a joint project of the authors from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, with the participation of the Project Management Office of the University of Gdańsk and an external partner - the Media Monitoring Institute.
From a review by dr hab. Andrzej Nowosad (Jagiellonian University)
The publication in many respects may be a model for research for all institutions and organisations in the perspective of regional development. Not only economists or management specialists but also media researchers and students of social sciences will find it useful. The book can serve as a methodological and documentary example for the analyses of other entities in terms of the use of EU funds and their media impact both in Poland and other EU countries. It has a pioneering character.
