- 'There is no need to be afraid and believe in stereotypes because girls can handle such majors,' says Ewa Bojke, a second-year student of mathematical modelling and data analysis at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, University of Gdańsk. Our faculty participates with twenty leading Polish universities in the action of the Perspektywy Educational Foundation Girls go Science!, which aims to encourage female secondary school and technical school students to study science.
The event will be held for the second time online on April 22, 2021. Several events have been planned so that girls will be able to find out more about what universities have to offer, take part in workshops prepared especially for them and talk to older female colleagues studying science.
Unfortunately, statistical reports still show that the share of female students in such majors is still unsatisfactory - the girls are doing great and they set a good example for the next candidates with their story - informs dr Hanna Furmańczyk, from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, UG.
A detailed programme is available on the campaign's website. You can also register for interesting meetings and workshops, e.g. for those who want to know more about the majors of the future and the important place of their graduates in key occupations for business and the economy.
As part of the Girls go Science! campaign, it will be possible to take part in mentoring. During these online meetings, specialists will try to answer questions such as: How can you tell if a particular major is 'FUTURE-proof'?
The online consultation will take place on April 22, from 13.00 - 17.00, as part of the event: Directions of the Future 2021. You need to select a Mentor, a university and the date of the meeting and sign up for the session: https://online.dziewczynynapolitechniki.pl/registration
