WOiG students interning at the University of Iceland

Four students from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography at the University of Gdańsk: Kaja Czajkowska, Małgorzata Jarzynowska, Małgorzata Szałęga and Emilia Zygarłowska will pursue a two-month internship at the University of Iceland at the Hύsavík Research Centre. This is possible thanks to the project entitled 'Mobility in Higher Education'. The project is supervised by prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski.

As part of the mobility, students of the University of Gdańsk will carry out field research on floating research vessels of the university centre, involving observation and recording of cetacean behaviour, as well as the creation of photographic documentation to identify individual specimens of the observed species. In addition, field studies will be conducted on land recording cetacean respiration rates. The internship will end with the students preparing a portfolio.

- 'The "Mobility in Higher Education" project is part of the international cooperation strategy of the University of Gdańsk, especially the concept of scientific research connected with the sea and maritime economy,' - says prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Liaison with Business and the Community. - 'The University cooperates in this field with many research and scientific centres from almost all countries in the world. As one of the eleven Polish universities, it forms a network of European universities and the consortium of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU).'.

The project entitled 'Mobility in Higher Education' benefits from a grant of EUR 26 245,00 received from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA funds. The project aims to increase the mobility of students and university staff between Poland and the Donor States.
