About women in the Bar at the WPiA

HERstories of Lawyers. Freedom and Solidarity is a conference that will aim to introduce the history of women in the Bar and their profiles and attitudes, thus highlighting the influence of women on the shape of the Bar today.

The conference 'HERstories of Lawyers. Freedom and Solidarity' will be held on August 28 at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk. The event is organised by the Supreme Bar Council together with the Women's Team at the Supreme Bar Council, co-organisers are the Pomeranian Bar Association, the University of Gdańsk and the Self-government of the Pomeranian Province, while the conference is organised under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk.

The conference will focus on the themes: in part one HERstories: Advocacy, Temida, Academia; in the second part: The female Advocates in Political and Military Trials. The conference will be attended by speakers from various parts of Poland, including adv dr Katarzyna Gajowniczek-Pruszyńska, Vice Dean of ORA in Warsaw, founder and originator of the Women's Issues Team at the NRA; adv Magdalena Maciukiewicz, Vice Dean of ORA in Krakow; adv Maria Janik, member of ORA in Łódź and Chair of the Legal Education Committee at the NRA; adv Monika Sokołowska, secretary of ORA in Lublin and Chair of the Women's Issues Team at the NRA; Judge Beata Morawiec President of Themis Judges Association, dr Iwona Dadej assistant professor at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw and researcher at the Center for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Berlin, prof. Joanna Kruczalak-Jankowska Head of the Department of Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Gdańsk, Equality Ombudsman at the University of Gdańsk, prof. Lech Krzyżanowski member of the Institute of History at the University of Silesia in Katowice, researcher of the history of women in the judiciary and the Bar, adv Piotr Kona from the Chamber of Łódź and advocates in political trials, adv Anna Bogucka-Skowrońska and adv Romana Orlikowska-Wrońska. The conference will be chaired by adv Danuta Wawrowska of the Pomeranian Bar Association in Gdańsk, a member of the Women's Team and the Pomeranian Women's Team.

During the conference, the results of the competition for an essay by a lawyer who inspires me will also be announced.

The conference will be held in the Hall of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk. It will start at 10.00.
