Dr Karolina Perzynowska winner of the international science Future Star Award

Dr Karolina Pierzynowska from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Gdańsk has become the winner of the prestigious international Future Science Future Star Award, which for the first time goes to a Polish scientist. Congratulations!

The Future Science Future Star Award Committee has taken note of the research conducted by dr Karolina Pierzynowska on developing therapies for Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease using genistein, a naturally occurring isoflavone. Studies conducted on both in vitro and mouse models of these diseases have demonstrated high safety and efficacy of this therapy.

The international Future Science Future Star award is organised by the publishing house 'Future Science' and the journal 'BioTechniques'. It aims to recognise outstanding scientists in the life sciences whose work can make a significant difference to human health and who have demonstrated a rapid and intensive start to their research careers while showing great passion for their research.

This year's panel includes Ian A Blair (University of Pennsylvania (USA), Ananda Bandyopadhyay (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (WA, USA), Andy Tay Kah Ping (National University of Singapore) and Catherine Martel (Université de Montréal, Canada).

We would also like to remind you that the researcher is also the winner of the 19th L'Oréal-UNESCO "For Women and Science" programme.
