Online course for mentors of migrants

Volunteers who would like to become mentors for migrants and help them integrate into the society they have chosen to live in can take a MOOC course, funded by the Erasmus Plus programme. Participants will learn, among other things, what mentoring is, what are the key attributes of a mentor and what soft skills are necessary to be an effective mentor.

The course 'MentorNET MOOC Become a good mentor of migrants' organised by the Scientific Association 'Institute for European Policy Studies' provides practical knowledge on how to be an effective mentor, strengthening so-called soft skills concerning among others communication with migrants.

'In our understanding, a mentor is a trusted advisor or companion, who offers guidance and support by helping his/her protégés develop or improve the necessary skills and knowledge to enable their development,' - says dr hab. Arkadiusz Modrzejewski, prof. UG from the Faculty of Social Sciences, project coordinator. - 'The course places emphasis primarily on strengthening soft skills, such as the ability to communicate effectively and well with refugees.'.

The course is easy to follow, with clearly defined educational content, films and many reflective tasks. It is aimed at people with no, or little, experience with mentoring and consists of two modules: one on general mentoring and one on migrants. The duration of the course is about 20-25 hours.

How to start? You can do it at any time (in Polish, English, German, Greek and Italian) by logging on to the website: https://mooc.mentor-network.eu/login/index.php

The MOOC project is financed by the Erasmus Plus programme and has been prepared by an international consortium. Its leader is a British company dealing with online education.
