They will read fragments of texts from Ukrainian drama, poetry and prose, juxtaposed with media information and a selection of comments and posts from social media. This Thursday, March 3, as a gesture of solidarity with Ukrainian women and men, a performative reading will take place in the Theatre Hall of the UG Neophilology building, combined with a collection of essential supplies and money for the people of Ukraine.
On February 24, 2022, Ukraine was brutally attacked by troops of the Russian Federation on the orders of Vladimir Putin. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is tantamount to a violation of its independence.
- 'We, students and the academic community of the University of Gdańsk, supported by artists connected to the Tri-City theatre scene, wish to express our opposition by giving voice to those who should be heard most today,' - say students of the Faculty of Philology UG, the organisers of Thursday's event. - 'We want to give voice not only to Ukrainian artists but also to the people on whose behalf they speak: we want to give voice to the "ordinary" citizens of Ukraine, our neighbours and friends who were forced to leave their homeland. We dedicate this meeting not only to all those who today are heroically fighting to defend their country but also to those who are overwhelmed by powerlessness, fear and despair.'.

The performative reading is organised on the initiative of students of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Gdańsk, studying Theatre Studies and Management of Artistic Institutions. - 'We feel the need to build an open community based on fundamental values such as freedom, equality and justice. Referring to the beautiful traditions of our city as a space of freedom and dialogue,' - the students add.
