Successful collection of bicycles and scooters for refugees

More than 50 bicycles and scooters were collected during a campaign held at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Gdańsk. The collected bicycles and scooters will be donated next week to Ukrainian refugees living in student houses provided by the University to the City of Sopot.

Most of the bicycles donated by donors are in working order or need minor repairs. The bikes were donated out of the need of the heart, some of the bicycles are children's bicycles which have outgrown their users and the parents (or the children themselves) preferred to give them to the needy rather than sell them. The volunteers particularly remembered an elderly gentleman who had come on his bike for the last time to return by tram; unfortunately, his health did not allow him to ride regularly anymore.

'We would like to thank everyone who wanted to share their good fortune and donated equipment. Let us hope that it will bring at least some joy, especially to refugee children,' - said the Rector, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, who came on Friday, together with the Acting Dean, dr hab. Danuta Plecka, prof. UG, to evaluate the results of the collection.

Due to the great interest in the campaign, the collection of bicycles and scooters for specific people who need them frequently, for example to commute to work, will be continued from next week. Information about this will appear regularly on the FB page of the action
