The Zero Waste fashion show, which we could see at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk, was organised as part of the Sustainable Development Day celebrations. In the gallery, we present thirteen creative and unconventional outfits prepared by the staff and students of our university.

The originators of the fashion show were scientists from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk - dr Joanna Dołżonek and dr hab. inż. Anna Białk-Bielińska, prof. UG.

Following the motto: Less is more, or how to overcome consumerism, new creations presented on the catwalk by students and employees of UG were created using clothes or materials that are no longer needed. Thirteen participants took part in the competition, presenting their ideas for a recycled outfit.

One could see a costume made of non-woven garden fabric, bubble wrap or old set elements from the theatre. The large audience seemed delighted and thunderously applauded the models.

- 'We are very pleased that you took part in our fashion show in such large numbers. We are extremely honoured that you decided to get involved in this venture and spread such an important message,' - said dr Joanna Dołżonek.

The idea of the competition was to draw attention to the enormous burden on the environment caused by the textile industry, which, by introducing fashion 'micro-seasons', drives the supply of clothing up to 52 times a year, and its production causes a huge amount of pollution to be emitted into the natural environment.

The event took place on Friday, June 3 this year.
