70th anniversary of prof. Tadeusz Stegner - report

The presentation of the UG silver medal, the premiere of a book about the jubilarian and speeches by distinguished guests - all this was prepared for the 70th anniversary of prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Stegner, a historian associated with our university for many years. The ceremony was attended by the university's authorities, local governments and important figures from Polish politics, including dr hab. Aleksander Hall, prof. of UITM, who served as minister in Tadeusz Mazowiecki's government. 

'Many people have passed through these 70 years and I will remember them all fondly, even those who wished me ill. Of course, as long as I remember that I have something to remember,' - joked the jubilarian.  

Many guests spoke during the meeting, including the Rector of UG prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG, Dean of the Faculty of History dr hab. Arkadiusz Janicki, prof. UG, Vice-Mayor of Gdynia Michał Guć, Bishop of the Pomeranian-Wielkopolska Diocese of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland Rev. dr hab. Marcin Hintz, President of the Polish Historical Association prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Mikulski

The first to speak was prof. Arkadiusz Janicki, who delivered the laudation of the jubilarian. The Dean of the Faculty of History mentioned, among other things, prof. Tadeusz Stegner's most important work, i.e. 'Poles-Evangelicals in the Kingdom of Poland 1815-1914', his activities connected with the city of Gdynia and the professor's short acting episode, i.e. the role of Sergeant Hopp in the staging of 'The Germans' by Leon Kruczkowski.

Rector UG prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski

The Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, presented prof. Tadeusz Stegner with a silver medal of the University of Gdańsk Doctrinae Sapientiae Honestati in recognition of his many years of teaching, his contribution to the development of the University of Gdańsk and building a positive image of the university. The Rector also emphasised the experience and excellent attitude of the Jubilarian, who, as he said, can be 'set as a university role model'.

 W imieniu Wicemarszałka Senatu Bogdana Borusewicza życzenia jubilatowi przekazała jego doradca Małgorzata Gładysz. 

On behalf of the Deputy Speaker of the Senate Bogdan Borusewicz, his advisor Małgorzata Gładysz conveyed his good wishes to the jubilarian.

During the ceremony, a book specially prepared for the event, 'Wandering through history. Professor Tadeusz Stegner's Jubilee Book', edited by prof. UG Arkadiusz Janicki and dr Iwona Janicka, published by the University of Gdańsk Publishing House. The Director of the Publishing House, Joanna Kamień, talked about the new publication, after which she presented the jubilarian with a personalised ex libirs. 

Prof. Tadeusz Stegner has no intention of ceasing his teaching and research activities. In his speech at the end of the event, he thanked the university authorities for the opportunity to continue his work at UG.
