'Challenging', 'Inspiring', 'An experience not to be forgotten'. - this is how graduates of the Blue Book programme describe their time at the European Commission. See how the executive arm of the European Union works on a 5-month paid internship. The internship offer is aimed at students with the equivalent of a bachelor's degree or university graduates. Recruitment is open until January 31, 2023.
For selected candidates, the adventure in one of the four main EU decision-making units will start in October 2023 and last until February of the following year. The European Commission offers two types of internships: administrative and translation. The former allows for work related to competition law, human resources or environmental legislation depending on the assignment, while the latter consists of working in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation.
Those who have completed a Bachelor's degree or equivalent can apply for the internship. The European Commission also requires knowledge of one of the three working languages of the unit: English, German or French at a level of at least C1 and a second language of one of the European Union countries at a level of min. B2. None of the requirements can be met by the candidate's mother tongue.
After the traineeship, the trainee has further job prospects in one of the many units of the European Commission.
Interns receive a salary of €1,300. The most popular place to stay during an internship is Brussels, but it is also possible to stay in Luxembourg or other selected European cities.
