The Silver Medal of the University of Gdańsk Doctrinae Sapientiae Honestati was awarded to prof. dr hab. Romuald Grzybowski for his continuous support and long-standing activities for the development of the university. On July 12, the Council Hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences was the venue for the 70th birthday jubilee of the distinguished scientist.

'On behalf of the University of Gdańsk, I would like to express my sincere thanks to prof. Romuald Grzybowski for all that he has done for the community of the University of Gdańsk, for his extraordinary involvement in the creation of the research output of Gdańsk pedagogy and for his dedication in organisational activities,' said the Vice-Rectotor for Students and Education of the University of Gdańsk, dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG. 'All this has resulted in a broader educational offer based on the current state of scientific research and modern trends in the preparation of pedagogues for the new challenges posed by their professional activity.

Prof. Romuald Grzybowski served as Director of the Institute of Pedagogy from 2008-2012 and from 2016-2020. During his academic career, he has written more than 100 scientific articles. In 2020, he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit. During the Faculty Council meeting, one of his successors spoke about his work.

'It was s Professor Grzybowski's responsibility to head our institute during the very difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not only did we carry out this task, but we also expanded our activities to include, among other things, online classes, which we had not conducted before this difficult time. We remember this and we know that the way our institute functions is also due to you, Professor," said the Director of the Institute of Pedagogy dr hab. Justyna Siemionow, prof. UG.

During the jubilee, the floor was also given to dr Paweł Śpica, Deputy Dean for Education of WNS UG, who in 2016 defended his doctoral thesis, written under the supervision of prof Romuald Grzybowski, on the activities of the universal organisation "Służba Polsce" in the years 1948-55. The Deputy Dean of WNS UG recalled his first meeting with the Jubilarian during the defense of his own bachelor's thesis and spoke about the further development of this scientific cooperation.

Prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Jakubiak talked about prof. Romuald Grzybowski's predecessors and mentors. The Head of the Department of the History of Science, Education, and Upbringing briefly presented the achievements of, among others, prof. Kazimierz Kubik and prof. Lech Mokrzecki.

Prof. Romuald Grzybowski thanked everyone for their kind words and emphasised that he still feels young and is not yet ready to make final summaries. The Jubilarian will act as supervisor of doctoral projects and continue his research activities.
