Students from the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University visited the University of Gdańsk as part of a summer school. During their two-week stay, the guests from the Ukrainian university, among other things, took part in various workshops, learned about the qualities of a good leader and visited the Emigration Museum in Gdynia. The European Science Campus summer school took place between July 19 and 30, thanks to funding received from the National Agency for International Exchange. The event was hosted by the UG Student and Doctoral Activity Centre.
Participants spoke with the Vice-Rector for Students and Educational Quality, dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG. During the meeting, the prospects for Ukrainian science and Ukrainian students' perception of the Polish system were discussed, as well as the scientific research conducted by the guests and what they like best about Gdańsk.
As part of the summer school, Odessa students also participated in a series of workshops and training sessions. Dr Anna Dziadkiewicz from the Faculty of Management UG talked about leadership issues in organisations. Dr Dziadkiewicz listed the qualities of a good leader and explained whether they can be developed.
A meeting with Marcelina Wilczewska, coordinator of the Regional Centre for International Debate in Gdańsk (RODM) and President of the Students for Ukraine Foundation, was of great interest. As part of the initiative, students learned about the details of the campaign to help Ukraine run by the Students for Ukraine organisation and the activities of RODM.
The guests were shown around the Emigration Museum in Gdynia by dr Rafał Raczyński, an Institute of Political Science UG and the Museum itself employee.
In the workshop on using photography in scientific work, the Ukrainian guests learnt the technical basics of taking photographs. They learned how to choose the right camera and lens for their purposes, how to frame a photo appropriately and take a picture to be as clear as possible. During the workshop, it was possible to see how photography can be used within specific disciplines: social, experimental, or STEM.
Thanks to a conference speech workshop, school participants learned how to structure their talk, manage stress and make the presentation understandable for the audience.
The summer school also included a visit to the University of Gdańsk. The Ukrainian students particularly enjoyed the UG Library offering free access to books and the modern campus.
