Experts, local government representatives, and journalists will discuss landscape as a challenge, a media topic, or a legal issue. Social-Scientific Forum Landscape and People. People in the Landscape will take place on March 1, 2024, in J. Limon Theatre Aula in the Neophilology building.
‘I understand Social-Scientific Forum Landscape and People. People in the Landscape as an opportunity to bring together those interested, concerned, decision-makers, researchers and admirers of the Pomeranian landscape, and to discuss together the state, challenges, and threats faced by IT and US today,’ says the President of the Pomeranian Landscape Conservation Institute dr. hab. Miłosława Borzyszkowska-Szewczyk, prof. UG. ‘At the same time, it is an opportunity to share reflections, experiences and research results of experts representing various fields of science, who have joined forces at the Pomerania Landscape Conservation Institute.’
Experts from various fields will take part in meetings about landscape. Attorney-at-law Mariusz Foryś will talk about the law that protects landscape, while attorney-at-law Magdalena Krzyżanowska-Mierzewska will present the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights on spatial planning and the protection of cultural heritage. The question ‘How to cooperate with the media for the benefit of landscape?’ will be answered by editor Małgorzata Gradkowska from the editorial office of ‘Always Pomerania’, and the issue of the protection of biodiverse landscape will be presented by biologists dr hab. Piotr Rutkowski, prof. UG and dr Renata Afranowicz-Cieślak.
The Forum will also include a discussion on the current state of Pomerania's landscape and its future. It will be attended by representatives of local authorities, including the Deputy Mayor of Gdansk Monika Chabior, Deputy Director of the Pomeranian Spatial Planning Office Anna Błażewicz-Stasiak, Słupsk Starost Paweł Lisowski, Deputy Director of the Gdańsk Roads and Greenery Management Barbara Tusk and editor Michał Tokarczyk from Polsat News.
Social-Scientific Forum Landscape and People. People in the Landscape is an ideal opportunity to find out what the current state of the Pomeranian landscape is and how we can help to protect it.
The Institute for the Protection of the Pomeranian Landscape, which was established at UG in 2022, played an important role in preparing the event. The organisation brings together researchers, local government officials, and experts in spatial planning and the protection of natural and cultural landscapes, who are actively involved in public negotiations on plans in this area.
‘When founding the Institute for the Protection of the Pomeranian Landscape, we formulated several main objectives for our activities. Among other things, we wanted to create a platform for activities at the interface between science and civil society and a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience. We considered it an important task to strengthen the dialogue between stakeholders and to generate reflection on the fundamental question: what kind of Pomerania do we want to leave for future generations? In the pursuit of civic participation, it is also important to build coalitions to strengthen the substantive debate in this area,’ explains prof. Miłosława Borzyszkowska-Szewczyk.
