The future of the SEA-EU alliance of six universities at the Technical Working Group

The Technical Working Group meeting initiated a series of meetings of the University of the Seas, SEA EU consortium - an alliance of six European and coastal European universities, hosted this time by the University of Gdańsk.

University of the Seas, SEA EU - is an alliance of six European and coastal universities from Gdańsk, Cadiz, Brest, Kiel, Split and Malta. It was established to pursue the vision of an international, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and interdisciplinary European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) with international scientific cooperation, innovation and knowledge transfer.

The members of the Governing Board, Executive Committee and Technical Working Group of SEA-EU from six European universities (Gdańsk, Cadiz, Brest, Kiel, Split and Malta) will meet for four days at the UG. In total there will be about 60 participants in the international project, including authorities, project coordinators and members of the SEA EU universities' working groups. Some participants from the six countries attended the meeting in person and some remotely using the platform.

- 'During the first day, representatives of individual universities analysed the achievements to date, the activities of the alliance and improvements that may be necessary for its future,' - says Marlena Rutkowska-Myzyk, Head of the SEA EU Office at the UG.

As she points out, the meetings and discussions also initiated the preparation of the final report on the alliances' three years of operation and preparation for participation in the next European Commission competition 'European Universities'.

- 'Among the topics discussed during the debates there were also issues concerning intensive courses and mobility among students, academic and administrative staff,' - adds Marlena Rutkowska-Myzyk.

The next day will be devoted to meetings of the Governing Board and the Executive Committee, composed of rectors and deans of individual universities. The participants will summarise the work done so far in the project and set priorities and directions for the next stage of SEA-EU for the next six years.

Let us recall that for the past three years, universities from six countries have been working on a new model of education and academic exchange, which will increase the competitiveness of European higher education, ensure the mobility of students and employees, and at the same time improve the quality of education and scientific research.

Representatives of Pomeranian and Gdansk voivodship and local government authorities will also meet the guests. Apart from project workshops and main debates, the programme includes visits to Olivia Business Centre and the European Solidarity Centre.
