- 'I feel good, safe in Poland. In Belarus I would be arrested,' says Andrei Arkhipenka, a political science student at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Gdańsk. On Saturday, February 5, journalists from Belsat TV prepared a report on Andrei in the UG within the framework of the programme 'Belarusian World'.
- 'The heroes of our reportage are Belarusians who fled political repression. We are looking for refugees from our country not only in Poland but all over the world,' - explains Alina Skrebunova, a journalist from Belsat TV.
Apart from everyday life at the university, the reportage will also focus on our student's activities for the benefit of Belarus. - 'In general, I am involved in various social and cultural projects, for example, now I am trying to preserve the memory of an outstanding Belarusian writer. Additionally, in Poland, I want to create a museum of the Belarusian war, which will be located in Warsaw. I am looking for various things connected with the protest in Belarus and the activity of Belarusians during the protests in Polish cities,' - said Andrei Arkhipenka.
Belsat TV is a part of Polish Television. It aims to broadcast reliable information about the state of Belarus and to promote Belarusian culture and language. As part of 'Belarusian World', journalists want to show how refugees who fled Belarus after the protests over the rigged elections are coping.
- 'We want to show why they left, what they do here, e.g. Andrei is a student, so we ask him why he chose the University of Gdańsk, why he chose to study political science, what he thinks of Poland and why he cannot return to Belarus,' says Alina Skrebunowa.
There are many students like Andrei. In the 2021/2022 academic year, 181 Belarusian citizens study at the University of Gdańsk, compared to 186 last year. They most often choose International Economic Relations, Management and Economics.
