Social work - the only master's degree programme of its kind in the region

Those wishing to professionally assist and support a selected community in crises can still take up studies on the Social Work major, implemented by the Institute of Pedagogy, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gdańsk. - This is a course for those interested not only in the knowledge of contemporary social problems but also in actively solving them - says prof. dr hab. Maria Mendel, Head of the Social Pedagogy Unit, Institute of Pedagogy, UG. Recruitment continues until September 6, 2022.

The two-year Master's Degree in Social Work is aimed at undergraduates from all fields of study. Classes are delivered by academics and specialist practitioners working in the field of social work and social integration in a flexible, hybrid way - online and on-site in the form of blocks.

'This is a master's degree programme that the University of Gdańsk runs as one of only a few universities in Poland. The studies last only two years and give qualifications for the profession of social worker (no other studies directly entitle you to employment within this profession),' - says prof. dr hab. Maria Mendel. - 'The future master's in social work study at UG is unique, combining a full-time form of classes with a remote form, with a slight advantage of the latter. Classes are held two to three days a week, in the afternoons.'

Wide choice of modules, interdisciplinary nature of studies

Social work is one of the most interdisciplinary fields of study, combining elements of pedagogy, psychology, sociology, economics, philosophy and law. During the course, students benefit from a wide range of modules, among which they can learn about the content of innovations in organisation and management in social work, family assistants in social work, community organising, social work with seniors and social work with people with addictions and mental disorders.
