The Joanna Schopenhauer Award ceremony and honouring of the winners of the ‘I Include Gender in Research’ competition, a lecture by prof. Natasza Kosakowska-Berezecka and a debate moderated by prof. Ewa Łojkowska ‘Does science have a gender?’ - all this is included in the programme of the 2nd Equality Day at the University of Gdańsk. We invite you to the UG Library on 2 March 2026.

Equality Day at the University of Gdańsk will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Senate Hall of the UG Library with the presentation of the Rector's Joanna Schopenhauer Award and diplomas to the winners of the competition for the Rector's Special Award ‘I Include Gender in Research’ by Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski. The Joanna Schopenhauer Award is granted to female researchers employed at the University of Gdańsk who have obtained the title of professor in the last two years and conduct research that takes into account the gender perspective of the research subject, while the ‘I Include Gender in Research’ award The University of Gdańsk honours the highest-rated master's and doctoral theses and habilitation achievements that take into account the gender perspective in the field of research.

After the ceremonial presentation of diplomas, this year's winner of the Joanna Schopenhauer Award, prof. dr hab. Natasza Kosakowska-Berezecka, will give a lecture on her award-winning achievement, entitled ‘In search of EQUAMAN - when, where, and why do men support gender equality?’. This will be followed by presentations by the winners of the ‘I Include Gender in Research’ competition.

The second part of the event will begin at 1 p.m. (after a coffee break) with a panel discussion entitled ‘Does science have a gender?’, co-organised by the UG Library and representatives of the Senate Committee for Social Responsibility.

Taking part in the panel are:

  • dr hab. Joanna Kruczalak-Jankowska, prof. UG, Spokesperson for Equal Treatment and Anti-Mobbing at the University of Gdańsk
  • dr hab. Joanna Żukowska, prof. PG, Spokesperson for Academic Rights and Values at GdańskTech

The panel will be moderated by prof. Ewa Łojkowska.
