University of Gdańsk among the signatories of the CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment) agreement

The Research Assessment Reform Agreement sets a common direction for change in research assessment practices, researchers and research-performing organisations, with the overarching goal of maximising the quality and impact of research. The agreement includes principles, commitments and timelines for reforms and sets out principles for collaboration in implementing change.

'The signatories commit to a shared vision whereby the evaluation of research, scientists and research organisations will take into account a variety of outcomes,' - reports dr Katarzyna Świerk, Director of the Science Office at the University of Gdańsk. - 'This requires basing evaluation primarily on qualitative evaluation, for which the responsible use of quantitative indicators is key.'

The consensus-building process on research evaluation reform was launched in January 2022 and involved more than 350 organisations from 40 countries. Among the Polish research institutions that have signed the agreement so far are the Polish Academy of Sciences and the University of Economics in Wrocław.
