Saturday, November 30, 2019 marked the first visit of the Ambassador of Italy, Mr. Aldo Amati to the University of Gdańsk, where he met with both professors and students of Italian Studies. The lecture hall in the Modern Languages building where the meeting took place was filled to the capacity with Italiophiles.
The meeting had a very cordial atmosphere, definitely facilitated by the Vice-Rector for Research and Foreign Cooperation prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski greeting the Ambassador in Italian. Professor Stepnowski then presented the achievements of the University in promoting Italian culture and teaching Italian Language (the only such post-graduate course in Poland). Mr Amati showed keen interest in the Italian initiative at the University of Gdańsk and, subsequently expressed contentment, appreciation and declared willingness to cooperate.
An interesting point of the meeting was the discussion of the Ambassador and the students of Italian Faculty students concerning, among other things, job opportunities awaiting Italian speakers. Mr Amati also informed the attendees of the major Italian investments currently happening in Poland.
The Vice-Rector Piotr Stepnowski and Mr Ambassador Amati discussed the possible improvements in the cooperation between the University of Gdańsk and Italian universities, as well as Italian governmental agencies promoting Italian language and culture.
