Let yourself be drawn into the fascinating world of science! Pomeranian Researchers' Night on September 27

Is it possible to create safe fire? How to build an armour to fight a tumour? What are intramedullary nails and what do mobile underwater robots resemble? The Pomeranian Researchers' Night will answer all these questions and many more on September 27, this year.

Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology, the Maritime University of Gdynia, the Naval Academy, the Experyment Science Centre and the Hevelianum - whichever of these scientific institutions you come to, you will find fascinating lectures, demonstrations, and workshops conducted by researchers with a passion. We invite you to come between 4:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.

Pomeranian Researchers' Night is an opportunity to meet scientists and discover the amazing world of science in a less serious way. Participants of the PRN will have a choice of attractions related to science, medical and biological sciences, psychology, or the humanities. 7,000 people attended last year's event!

The PRN will begin at 4 p.m. at the MUG Sports Centre. Participants and guests of honour at the inauguration will be representatives of the partners and invited local authorities. The inaugural lecture ‘Breast cancer in artificial intelligence networks’ will be given by dr Maciej Bobowicz from the Department of Radiology at MUG. Shortly afterwards, the Hevelianum will take the stage. - We will see the invisible, tame flames and extreme cold, and carry out explosive chemical reactions,’ encourage the event's organisers. Playing with electricity will be followed by the fascinating show Nanocellulose: Bacteria at the service of the future and how these microscopic organisms will revolutionise our future. The demonstrations will be followed by debates on cancer, with Professor Jacek Jassem as one of the moderators.

At the partners‘ premises, the Pomeranian Researchers’ Night will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Researchers' Night is a popular-science event held annually in European Union countries on the last Friday of September. The first Pomeranian Researchers' Night was held in the Tricity area on September 29, 2023, and was attended by nearly 7,000 people. The event in the Pomeranian Voivodeship is coordinated by the Medical University of Gdansk, and its partners are Pomeranian universities - the University of Gdansk, Gdansk University of Technology, Gdynia Maritime University and the Naval Academy, a scientific institute - the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and two centres for the popularisation of science - the Experyment Science Centre and the Hevelianum.

Pomeranian Researchers' Night (full name of the project is Pomeranian Researchers Night: European Challenges And Missions Closer To The Citizens; acronym NightMission) has gained recognition from the European Commission and received funding from the Horizon Europe programme for subsequent editions of the event, scheduled for 2024 and 2025. Pomeranian Researchers Night in 2024 and 2025 will address the challenges facing Europe before 2030. The answers provided by ongoing research work will be the basic theme of the meetings and scientific stands organised. Scientists from the Medical University of Gdańsk will focus on the fight against cancer through the prism of research, prevention and treatment.
