One hundred operational goals assigned to individual UG strategic objectives: this was the premise of the second meeting of the UG strategic workshop. More than 60 people representing various units, teams, and areas of our University worked on formulating them - under the guidance of the facilitators.
‘We can already state that it is a spectacular success of our community that we have been able to constructively find common ground in defining our University's roadmap with so many areas of academic activity represented by so many people involved in building the new strategy. With so many ideas for the development of the University, we are open to dialogue and reaching consensus. They are related to the fact that we listen to each other and do not look at area sections of our University's activities, but design its sustainable development,' said Vice-Rector for Development and Finance, dr hab. Paweł Antonowicz, prof. UG.
During the plenary session serving as an introduction to the work in the workshop groups, the Vice-Rector, prof. P. Antonowicz, presented the current status of works on the new UG strategy and the subsequent stages of its establishment and familiarised the participants with the assumptions of the following workshop sessions (on November 5 and 8).
Vice-Rector prof. P. Antonowicz also presented the results of the implementation of the current UG strategy, visualised in the form of potentiometers that indicate the percentage level of implementation of current strategic objectives. ‘Our current Strategy encompasses more than 360 reported initiatives directly related to the University's strategic goals, and more than 50 people are currently involved in data reporting,' prof. Paweł Antonowicz conveyed. In the UG Development Strategy for 2025 - 2030, which is being prepared, there will be more of these people, each of the operational goals developed will be assigned to the relevant UG unit, and there are as many as 100 of these goals - compared to the 64 that were identified in the Strategy for 2020 - 2025.
An important aspect of the work on the implementation of future tasks at UG (2025 - 2030) will be an innovative IT system (which is also a dynamic, constantly updated data repository) that will enable the management of both the University's general strategy and the strategies of all 11 faculties. ‘We aim to be able to monitor the current status of the strategic objectives set at any time, rather than on an annual basis. Our own prototype IT/STRATEGY UG module, designed for these purposes, will also make it easier for us to update the Strategy on an ongoing basis in the future, in response to changing conditions,' noted prof. Paweł Antonowicz.
‘We are not cutting ourselves off from the past,' stressed the Vice-Rector, referring to the four perspectives which (with a slight modification of one of them, concerning even greater emphasis on the internationalisation aspect) remain the pillars of the new University of Gdańsk Development Strategy for the next five years. The aim of the workshop on 5 November was to cascade the 25 weighted strategic objectives into 100 weighted operational objectives.
The work on developing the operational objectives took place in teams of people representing those areas of UG activities that correspond to the 4 perspectives of the University's overall strategy. The workshop on 5 November was very dynamic and the teams worked flexibly. The moderators of the teams working on the individual strategic areas were:
- dr Jędrzej Siciński - in the area Highest level of university education;
- dr hab. inż. Piotr Sliż, prof. UG - in the area Highest quality in scientific research and innovation creation;
- dr hab. Robert Bęben, prof. UG - in the area of Openness, social responsibility and internationalisation of the University;
- dr Bartosz Nowak - in the area Top performance in University management.
The last strategy workshop will take place on November 8.
