Two female scientists from UG among the nominees for ‘Forbes Women’ Woman of the Year 2024

Dr Alicja Mikołajczyk from the Faculty of Chemistry UG and dr hab. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak, prof. UG from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and MUG were among the 50 Forbes Women 2024 (in the Science category) and were nominated for the Woman of the Year title. For the past five years, the editors of ‘Forbes Women’ magazine have selected 100 women who, in the opinion of the editors, deserve to be recognised. Hundreds of wonderful and courageous women have been honoured in this way, and their stories have been known to tens of thousands of readers.

This year, 50 women were selected in five categories for special achievements in 2024. From among them, the magazine's readers will choose the Woman of the Year in an online poll. In the Science category, among the 10 women, two nominees are from UG. We encourage you to vote for dr Alicja Mikołajczyk from the Faculty of Chemistry or dr hab. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak, prof. DR ALICJA MIKOŁAJCZYK, CHEMISTRY FACULTY

D. from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Gdańsk, specialising in the digital design of materials, chemicals and drugs, with a focus on their sustainability and safety. Her research focuses on methods of artificial intelligence, machine learning and quantum chemistry. Awarded the L'Oréal-UNESCO Fellowship for Women and Science this year.

DR HAB. DANUTA GUTOWSKA-OWSIAK, PROF. UG

Professor at the University of Gdańsk, immunologist, president of the Gdańsk branch of the Polish Society of Experimental and Clinical Immunology. She conducts research on atopic dermatitis and allergy, collaborating with researchers from Oxford, London, Edinburgh, Milan and Nijmegen in the Netherlands. She was elected this year as Chair of the European Epidermal Barrier Research Network. She will hold this position jointly with dr Ryan O'Shaughnessy from Queen Mary University of London.
