Prof. dr hab. Józef Adam Liwo from the Faculty of Chemistry and dr hab. Artur Szutta, prof. UG from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk received the Award of the Minister of Education for many years of scientific activity and significant achievements in this field.
The awards of the Minister of Education and Science honour the most outstanding academic teachers and scientists in their fields. The winners are recognised both by the staff of universities and research and scientific institutes.
They are awarded in 5 categories - for significant achievements in research, teaching, implementation, organisational and overall achievements.
Prof. dr hab. Józef Adam Liwo from the Department of Theoretical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk, a theoretician, scientist, who loves writing computer programs and is passionate about learning foreign languages, even such exotic ones as Korean, received an award for overall scientific achievements. This is an important category, in which outstanding personalities of Polish science and higher education are awarded for their many years of scientific, teaching and organisational activities.
Laureates in this category are individuals who, in the course of their professional careers, play many important roles and devote themselves to various aspects of scientific and academic activity - from the scientific and didactic care provided for young scientific staff, through conducting research, discovering new technologies, creating theories and scientific works, to managing entities and organising their activities, establishing and expanding international cooperation and disseminating knowledge.

The award in the category for significant achievements in scientific activities went to dr hab. Artur Mariusz Szutta, prof. UG from the Institute of Philosophy of the Faculty of Social Sciences UG, specialising in social philosophy, ethics and metaethics. Author of two books: 'Obywatelskie nieposłuszeństwo' (Warsaw 2011), 'Intuicje moralne. O poznaniu dobra i zła' (Lublin 2018); editor-in-chief of 'Filozofuj!'; lover of football and learning foreign languages (including Chinese).
The award is granted, among others, for conducting scientific research, as a result of which new knowledge not aimed at direct commercial application was acquired, or new knowledge and skills aimed at developing new products, processes or services, or introducing significant improvements to them; conducting development works, as a result of which currently available knowledge or skills were acquired, combined, shaped or used; conducting artistic creativity, as a result of which a tangible or intangible artistic work was created, including artistic performance, making a significant contribution to the development of culture; leading research teams.
