The Women's Debate will take place on Friday, March 5, as part of 'Women's Week at UG'. The online conversation will focus on social issues, in particular the functioning of women in society. The topic of sexual education, gender equality or menstrual poverty will be raised. The event will be accompanied by a collection for the Centre for Women's Rights in Gdańsk. The event is organised under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski.
Celebrating Women's Day together online during the Women's Debate is a proposal for everyone, both women and men, who would like to discuss the functioning of women in society. The debate will be hosted by Monika Chabior, Vice-President of Gdańsk, Marta Typa, a psychologist at the Women's Rights Centre Foundation, Paulina Wronecka from Pracownia Marzeń and zakręcona Cafe, and Barbara Grobelna from Be Good Academy.
The originator of the event is Beata Chmiel, a PhD student at the University of Gdańsk.
- 'I came up with the idea of organising Women's Day by accident after seeing a post on the Facebook page of the Women's Rights Centre asking for financial support. I thought - why not organise a fundraiser at the University? After all, Women's Day is coming up. Instead of the traditional flower, you can do something useful for women and celebrate this day in a socially responsible way,' says Beata Chmiel from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk. - 'The discussion will focus on social issues, in particular the functioning of women in society. Sexual education, gender equality or menstrual poverty will come up. This will be a challenge for the panellists, as it is a very broad subject area.'
The campaign, from March 1 to 8, will be accompanied by a fundraising event for the Women's Rights Centre in Gdańsk, under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. It will take place online at zrzutka.pl. All the money will be donated to the Centre for Women's Rights in Gdańsk.
- 'The Women's Rights Centre does a lot of good for women affected by violence, but these activities need funding. Especially in a pandemic, when confinement to homes has caused an increase in domestic violence, that means more work for the CPK,' adds Beata Chmiel.
The debate will take place on Friday, March 5, at 6 p.m. The planned time is 2 hours. All you need to participate in the event is the link, which is freely available to the public.
