The Academic Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners is set up as a new, university-wide and extra-faculty unit to coordinate all activities related to the teaching of Polish as a foreign language. - 'Classes in Polish language and culture are intended not only to facilitate communication with Polish colleagues but also to make it possible to get to know Polish traditions, customs and cultural heritage which foreigners living in Poland encounter,' emphasises the role of the new Centre within the university, dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG, Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education at UG.
So far, courses and coaching have been implemented at the Faculty of Philology of UG, the Foreign Languages Centre of UG, the FRUG Foundation and incidentally at other faculties. - 'Polish language classes for foreigners were conducted by the Centre for Foreign Languages of the University of Gdańsk and the School of Polish Language and Culture. Now, both units, together in the new centre, will educate all those willing to learn about the Polish language and culture,' - informs the Vice-Rector dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG.
The new unit - the Academic Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners - will be responsible for teaching foreigners Polish as a foreign language (language courses), conducting certificate examinations (also examinations for UG), courses, workshops and methodological training. It will also coordinate activities related to the realisation of study programmes in Polish as a foreign language, e.g. studies for students from Harbin, organising seminars for teachers and lecturers teaching Polish abroad, seminars and conferences devoted to Polish language and culture, teaching Polish as a second language and translation, as well as popularising knowledge of Polish language and culture.
- 'Pomerania is an attractive place not only for studying but also for making professional plans. The group of foreigners who settle down in our region is growing in number, and together with them their loved ones come here,' - explains the Vice-Rector dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński prof. UG. - 'The courses are open to everyone who would like to learn Polish and get to know the history of Gdańsk and its contemporary cultural offer,' - adds the Vice-Rector.
ACJPiKP will be subordinated to the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation. A special website will be created, with a full offer. The new organisational formula will also make it possible to prepare the centre's offer for the Fahrenheit Association, which will significantly expand the possibilities for development.
