The University of Gdańsk has risen to the top ten of the best academic institutions in Poland in the Perspektywy 2026 University Ranking. This is the University of Gdańsk’s highest position ever in the history of this most important and prestigious ranking of Polish higher education institutions. The Faculty of Chemistry achieved this success, with its environmental protection degree programme rated as the best in the country. Biotechnology and law also made it onto the podium.
The University of Gdańsk was ranked 4th among traditional universities. In this category, the University of Gdańsk is surpassed only by the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University - which tied for first place in the Perspektywy 2026 University Ranking - and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
In recent years, the university has been steadily strengthening its position amongst the leaders of Polish academia. It is worth noting that as recently as 2020, the University of Gdańsk was ranked 28th in the Perspektywy Academic Institutions Ranking. In 2021, it rose to 23rd place, and between 2022 and 2024 it maintained 16th place. The breakthrough came in 2025, when the University of Gdańsk rose to 11th place and received the ‘Advancement 2025’ Special Award, given to the university that had made the most spectacular leap up the rankings. This year’s rise into the top 10 confirms a sustained upward trend and marks the university’s best result ever.

The University of Gdańsk performed best in the prestige criterion (assessments by the academic community and employers), in which it ranked 8th among all academic institutions.
The Faculty of Chemistry has achieved a huge success in this year’s edition of the Perspektywy ranking - the environmental protection degree programme offered there takes the top spot on the podium and ranks first in the country, whilst also becoming the highest-rated degree programme among all those offered at the University of Gdańsk.
The biotechnology programme, run by the Inter-University Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk, ranked third in Poland, behind only the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw. The programme maintained its ranking from last year.
Law has joined the ranks of the programmes on the national podium (Faculty of Law and Administration), moving up one place compared to last year and trailing only the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw.
Ranked in 4th place last year, cultural studies has retained its position.
In 5th place in this year’s edition of the ranking, the following degree programmes were classified: administration, computer science and econometrics, and biology.
In 6th place in 2026 were : archaeology, history, sociology, psychology, computer science and geography.
About the ranking
The Perspektywy University Ranking currently comprises three mutually complementary lists:
- Academic Universities Ranking, covering all higher education institutions in the country (with the exception of art schools) that are authorised to award doctoral degrees;
- Fields of Study Ranking, covering 76 main fields of study or groups of fields of study at academic universities this year (with electroradiology being a new addition);
- Ranking of Vocational Higher Education Institutions, covering public and private institutions offering master’s-level programmes.
This year’s edition of the Perspektywy Higher Education Institution Ranking, with regard to academic institutions, is based on the same methodology as last year, retaining the same set of seven criteria. The main criteria and their weightings in the final assessment are: research effectiveness (30% of the final score), internationalisation (15%), research potential (13%), prestige and graduates in the labour market (both weighted at 12%), teaching conditions (10%) and innovation (8%).
‘Today’s success is a source of pride, but also a commitment to further development. It shows that, together, we are capable of achieving goals that seemed very ambitious just a few years ago. We want to continue building a university that is open, modern and strongly present on the international scientific map,’ adds the Rector.

Ogromny sukces w tegorocznej edycji rankingu Perspektywy odnosi Wydział Chemii – realizowany tam kierunek ochrona środowiska staje na najwyższym stopniu podium i zajmuje 1. miejsce w kraju stając się jednocześnie najlepiej ocenionym kierunkiem spośród wszystkich prowadzonych na Uniwersytecie Gdańskim.
Kierunek biotechnologia prowadzony na Międzyuczelnianym Wydziale Biotechnologii UG i GUMed, uplasował się na 3 miejscu w Polsce, ustępując jedynie Uniwersytetowi Jagiellońskiemu i Uniwersytetowi Warszawskiemu. Kierunek utrzymał notowanie z zeszłego roku.
Do grona kierunków zajmujących krajowe podium dołączyło prawo (Wydział Prawa i Administracji) awansując o jedną pozycję w stosunku do roku ubiegłego i ustępując jedynie Uniwersytetowi Jagiellońskiemu i Uniwersytetowi Warszawskiemu.
Notowane na pozycji 4. w roku ubiegłym kulturoznawstwo zachowało swoją pozycję.
Na miejscu 5. w tegorocznej edycji rankingu sklasyfikowano następujące kierunki: administracja, informatyka i ekonometria oraz biologia.
Na miejscu 6. w roku 2026 sklasyfikowano: archeologię, historię, socjologię, psychologię, informatykę i geografię.
O rankingu
Ranking Szkół Wyższych Perspektywy to obecnie trzy wzajemnie się uzupełniające zestawienia:
- Ranking Uczelni Akademickich obejmujący wszystkie (z wyjątkiem artystycznych) szkoły wyższe w kraju, posiadające co najmniej uprawnienia do nadawania stopnia naukowego doktora;
- Ranking Kierunków Studiów, obejmujący w tym roku 76 głównych kierunków lub grup kierunków studiów w uczelniach akademickich (nowością jest elektroradiologia);
- Ranking Uczelni Zawodowych obejmujący uczelnie publiczne i niepubliczne kształcące na poziomie magisterskim.
Tegoroczna edycja Rankingu Szkół Wyższych Perspektywy, w odniesieniu do uczelni akademickich, oparta jest na takiej samej metodologii, jak w roku ubiegłym, przy utrzymaniu tego samego zestawu siedmiu kryteriów. Główne kryteria i ich wagi w ostatecznej ocenie to: efektywność naukowa (30 % wagi przy ocenie końcowej), umiędzynarodowienie (15 %), potencjał naukowy (13 %), prestiż i absolwenci na rynku pracy (oba z wagą 12 %), warunki kształcenia (10 %) i innowacyjność (8 %).
– Dzisiejszy sukces jest powodem do dumy, ale także zobowiązaniem do dalszego rozwoju. Pokazuje, że wspólnie potrafimy osiągać cele, które jeszcze kilka lat temu wydawały się bardzo ambitne. Chcemy nadal tworzyć uniwersytet otwarty, nowoczesny i silnie obecny na międzynarodowej mapie nauki – dodaje Rektor.
