In the ranking of Polish city mayors published by Newsweek, among the best local government officials there are three graduates of the University of Gdańsk.
As the organisers state: 'The N15 ranking organised by "Newsweek" is a plebiscite in which votes are cast by the mayors themselves. The voting process is supervised by a committee. It is composed of leading academics connected with local government: prof. Grzegorz Gorzelak from Warsaw University, dr Cezary Trutkowski, president of the Management Board of the Foundation in Support of Local Democracy, dr Andrzej Porawski, director of the office of the Association of Polish Cities. The composition of the committee is completed by Dariusz Ćwiklak, deputy editor-in-chief of "Newsweek".'
In this year's ranking two places were taken by women, graduates of the University of Gdańsk: President of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz and Mayor of Słupsk Krystyna Danilecka-Wojewódzka - in 7th and 8th place respectively. The lifetime title of super-mayor has already been awarded to the Mayor of Sopot Jacek Karnowski, a graduate of economics doctoral studies at our university.
Mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz graduated from law at the UG, and has been managing Gdańsk since 2019 after the tragic death of Mayor Paweł Adamowicz. On the other hand, Mayor Krystyna Danilecka-Wojewódzka, who is a Polish teacher by education, took over the reins after Robert Biedroń in 2018.
On the list of the 15 best city mayors, the ladies were in the group of 5 women together with Beata Moskal-Słaniewska from Świdnica (No. 3), Anna Mieczkowska from Kołobrzeg (No. 6) and Beata Klimek from Ostrów Wielkopolski (No. 13).
