Cooperation between the University of Gdańsk and Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art has been established to support the mutual popularisation of science, knowledge, art and culture.

CCA ŁAŹNIA is one of the most important institutions in Poland in the field of contemporary art, which the main goal is to present and disseminate universal values of contemporary art, which is a part of the world's cultural heritage.

'Our mission is to present the latest artistic phenomena in the process of their transformation, to react to current cultural and civilisational phenomena in the contemporary world, and at the same time to educate in this field, using new media and technologies,' - says Jadwiga Charzyńska, Director of the ŁAŹNIA CCA. - 'The goals of our institution are realised by organising exhibitions, performances, interventions in public space, workshops, scientific conferences, lectures, concerts, film screenings, as well as through publishing activities, international exchanges, artistic residencies and innovative educational programmes.'

The agreement is perfectly in line with the mission of the University of Gdańsk, which is not only to provide reliable knowledge and top-level education but also to cultivate culture.

- 'The agreement with the ŁAŹNIA Centre for Contemporary Art means, among other things, an opportunity for a free exchange of experiences and efforts to popularise mutual knowledge and art, as well as more space for organising joint educational and cultural projects,' - says prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, Rector of UG. - 'Forming open-minded people who find themselves in cultural diversity and the changing world is also an important part of our activities.'

The cooperation between the two institutions, though less formal, has been going on for a long time. The Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and Gdańsk Medical University can boast of experience in this field.

- 'The Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and GUMed, and my team, in particular, have been cooperating with the ŁAŹNIA Centre for Contemporary Art for years,' - says prof. dr hab. Ewa Łojkowska, head of the Department of Plant Protection and Biotechnology. - 'As part of various projects, mainly concerning those in the field of BIOART (e.g. exhibitions: Oron Cats and Ionat Zurr Crude Life, Zbigniew Oksiuta Studiolo-Cosmic Gardens), we helped prepare the biological part of the exhibition. Several professors, guests of ŁAŹNIA, also gave lectures at our faculty: Oron Cats, Nina Czeglady, Gina Czarnecki and Roger Malina. The exhibition "Plants-Animals ~ Symbioticity of Creation" by Elvin Flamingo, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts who also collaborates with the ŁAŹNIA CCA, is currently on display in the department.'

Monika Zdroik, head of the Promotion Team at UG, was appointed by the Rector of UG to coordinate cooperation with the ŁAŹNIA Centre.
