Sale of a part of the Lotos Group. Scientific conference - photo report

On the eighth of April, the speakers on the sale of Lotos Group to companies from Saudi Arabia and Hungary included Mieczysław Struk, Marshall of Pomorskie Voivodeship and former president of Lotos - Paweł Olechnowicz. The conference 'Risks and Consequences of Division and Sale of the Lotos Group. Economic and Social Perspective' took place at the University of Gdańsk.

One of the transactions that have been stirring up emotions in recent months is the sale of a portion of the Lotos Group by Orlen. The buyers include Saudi Arabian fuel giant Saudi Aramco and Hungarian company MOL. Sejmik of Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Bruno Synak Pomeranian Scientific Institute and the University of Gdańsk organised a scientific and economic conference, where representatives of self-governments, scientists, journalists and entrepreneurs could discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this transaction. The debate took place on April 8, this year.

The event was also attended by representatives of our University. - 'The main values of the University of Gdańsk are the rational pursuit of truth, following the best models of world science and modern education serving social and economic development. We would like today's scientific and economic conference to take place in such an atmosphere,' - welcomed the guests, prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Liaison with Business and the Community.

The discussion on the sale of the Lotos Group was started by the former president of the company - Paweł Olechnowicz. - 'I started working at the Gdańsk Refinery in 2002. At the very beginning, I was informed by Minister Kaczmarek that I was entering a position where the process of selling the Gdańsk Refinery had to be implemented,' - Paweł Olechnowicz began his story.

After the introductory speech of the former President of the Lotos Group the debate began, in which participated, among others, prof. Witold Orłowski, Chief Economic Advisor PwC and dr Zbigniew Canowiecki, President of Pracodawcy Pomorza. The discussion was moderated by Michał Niewiadomski, an economic journalist.

Among the guests were representatives of the Pomeranian local government headed by Mr Mieczysław Struk, Pomeranian parliamentarians (Tadeusz Aziewicz, Bogdan Borusewicz, Małgorzata Chmiel, Jarosław Wałęsa), as well as representatives of the world of science, Pomeranian employers and entrepreneurs, and business environment institutions.
