The conference 'Solidarity with Ukraine. Students, academics, institutions' is ahead of us.

Presenting the involvement of the scientific and academic community in helping Ukrainians - is the aim of the conference 'Solidarity with Ukraine. Students, academics, institutions', organised by the University of Gdańsk and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA. The event will take place on May 12 - 13, 2022 in Gdańsk. Registration is already underway.

As part of a government initiative, the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, in consultation with the academic and scientific community, developed the principles of the programme under the slogan 'Solidarity with Ukraine'. Interest in the programme was enormous - more than PLN 23.3 million was earmarked for students and doctoral students who had to seek refuge in Poland because of the war, according to NAWA.

'The Polish academic and scientific community passed a difficult test. Feeling solidarity with the Ukrainians, it began to act from the first days of the war, wanting to provide not only shelter but also an opportunity to continue teaching and research work for the representatives of the academic and scientific community in Ukraine. The Agency, using its previous experience gained on the occasion of a similar programme "Solidarity with Belarus", started working on the concept of a programme addressed to Ukrainians immediately. I am glad that as NAWA - given what we are witnessing - we were once again able to give a tool to build at least a slightly better world,' - says dr Grażyna Żebrowska, Director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

The University of Gdańsk has been showing its solidarity with Ukraine and its citizens almost from the first day of the Russian army invasion. New initiatives are still being developed - among the latest ones are a collection of bicycles and scooters and the creation of the Creative Activity Zone, i.e. a day-care centre for Ukrainian children.

'In the face of this war, our task is to build a support system for Ukrainian citizens who have been deprived of the basic necessities of life. We have not remained indifferent and we continue to act, for which I would like to thank all those involved in providing help,' - says prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, Rector of the University of Gdańsk.

A conference entitled 'Solidarity with Ukraine', prepared by NAWA together with the University of Gdańsk, will present the involvement of the scientific and academic community in helping Ukrainians. The event will take place in the Theatre Hall of the Neophilology Building of the Faculty of Philology, University of Gdańsk, on May 12 and 13.

The conference programme is available on the NAWA website

The panel 'Polish-Ukrainian academic cooperation: needs, opportunities, reality' will be moderated on Thursday, May 12 (16.30-18.00) by the Rector of the University of Gdansk, prof. Piotr Stepnowski.
