Professor Cezary Obracht-Prondzyński joined the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU) Team

Professor Cezary Obracht-Prondzyński, Head of Social Anthropology Division of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk, has been selected as a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU). He is the fourth researcher from the University of Gdańsk to join the PAU elite. This year’s election took place on 19 June, in the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences main building.

New PAU members were voted by correspondence. On 19 June 2020 the Admissions Committee, composed of professor Maciej Włodarski, professor Janusz Kruk, professor Marek Krąpiec, professor Anetta Undas, professor Krzysztof Skórzewski, professor Maria Nowakowska elected, among others, Professor Cezary Obracht-Prondzyński, Head of Social Anthropology Division of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk as PAU corresponding member.

He is yet another University of Gdańsk researcher elected to PAU Team, joining professor Jerzy Limon from the Department of Performing Arts of the Institute of English and American Studies at the Faculty of Languages, the originator and director of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, professor Grzegorz Węgrzyn, Head of Molecular Biology Department at the UG Faculty of Biology and professor Jerzy Zajadło, Head of Theory and Philosophy of Law and State Department at the UG Faculty of Law and Administration.

The following professors from Gdańsk are also PAU members: professor Janusz Limon, professor Stefan Angielski, professor Jacek Jassem, professor Krzysztof Narkiewicz and professor Józef Borzyszkowski.

Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences is a scientific institution with the legal status of an association. It brings distinguished researchers and academic staff elite together. It was established in 1872, since the beginning it served a role of national scientific and cultural institution. PAU consists of six Classes: Philology; History and Philosophy; Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; Natural Sciences; Medicine; Creative Arts – they serve as important opinion makers in scientific community. However, the 39 Commissions carry the main load of Academy’s operation. They group researchers from various scientific areas together, most of them not being PAU members.
