Telemedicine allows patients to contact healthcare professionals from home via various channels for medical advice, prescription, sick leave or diagnostic tests. It is a convenient solution and sometimes it is the only way in which a patient can communicate with healthcare professionals. The coronavirus disease pandemic has shown the importance of efficient solutions for remote medical services delivered with the use of modern, mobile technologies. However, those services need not only adequately trained medical professionals and IT specialists but also managers who overlook the entire process.
The University of Gdańsk offers a new programme - Telemedicine and Telehealth Projects. Health Care Technology, which addresses the current challenges of remote medical services.
Programme information
Telemedicine and Telehealth Projects. Health Care Technology is a unique programme in Poland. It is interdisciplinary as it combines economic, legal and technical perspectives. It is a practical programme co-managed by two faculties of the University of Gdańsk: the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Law and Administration.
It is a part-time, graduate programme designed for candidates with a background in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, economics, law, administration, as well as medicine, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy or rehabilitation whose plans include running a business with an attractive offer of services, including telehealth. This programme is also designed for management and administrative staff from the health care sector, insurance and local government institutions dealing with health protection, and other candidates whose work is related to the provision of medical services.
The Telemedicine and Telehealth Projects. Health Care Technology programme at the University of Gdańsk prepares students for the demands of work in various sectors of the health care market. The acquired knowledge and competences can help start a business, perform managerial functions and increase employability in health care institutions.

Dynamic development and future of telemedicine
Telemedicine is much more than online consultations and e-prescriptions or e-sick-leaves. The events related to the coronavirus disease pandemic not only forced us to change certain behaviours, but also accelerated the implementation of many technological and economic solutions that we knew were there, but we did not use them. Now, these solutions are and will still be used when the health situation returns to normal. It also applies to telemedicine services, which are combined with new business models, organizational and legal solutions, and above all with the new labour market.
Innovations in this field are already changing the way patients, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, representatives of financial and insurance institutions, as well as specialists in social communication and the advertising market work and interact.
