'Social dimension of scientific societies' activities' was the theme of the 3rd Congress of Scientific Societies held in Gdańsk from 20 to 22 October.
During the first day of the Congress, in Dwór Artusa in Gdańsk, the session was chaired by prof. dr hab. Iwona Hofman - Chairperson of the Council of Scientific Societies at the Presidium of PAS and prof. dr hab. inż. Jerzy Błażejowski - President of the Gdańsk Scientific Society.
The event included speeches by, among others, the Pomeranian Voivode Dariusz Drelich, Director of the Gdańsk Museum dr hab. Waldemar Ossowski, prof. UG and prof. dr hab. Marcin Gruchała Chairman of the Assembly of the Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
As part of the event, Medals for the 100th Anniversary of the Societies of Friends of Science and Art in Gdańsk/Gdańsk Scientific Society/Gdańsk Society of Friends of Art were presented.
The award winners included members of the UG academic community Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education - dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński prof. UG, Dean of the Faculty of Economics dr hab. Monika Bąk, prof. UG, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry UG dr hab. Beata Grobelna, prof. UG, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences dr hab. Michał Harciarek, prof. UG, Dean of the Faculty of Management prof. dr hab. Mirosław Szreder, Director of the Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk prof. dr hab. Adriana Zaleska-Medyńska.
There were also inaugural lectures and the presentation of publications 'Społeczny ruch naukowy w procesie zmian' (Social scientific movement in the process of change) by prof. dr hab. Zbigniew Kruszewski and a commemorative book and a special volume (LXXXI) of "Rocznik Gdański" (Gdańsk Yearbook) published on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Friends of Science and Art Societies in Gdańsk/Gdańsk Scientific Society/Gdańsk Society of the Friends of Art by prof. dr hab. Jerzy Błażejowski.
The entire event was honoured by a performance by Capella Gedanensis, which presented both classical pieces and hits from TV series.
