University of Gdańsk graduate dr Michał Kraszpulski honoured with The International Education Award

Dr Michal Kraszpulski, a UG alumnus and a researcher who is constantly collaborating with our university, received a prestigious award - The International Education Award - from Wright State University President dr Susan Edwards.

The distinction of The International Education Award is given to Wright State University employees for outstanding achievements in organising and conducting educational activities of international scope. Dr Michał Kraszpulski obtained a master's degree in biology and animal ecology at the University of Gdańsk, followed by a PhD in neurobiology at the Medical Academy of Gdańsk (now the Medical University of Gdańsk). In 2007, he became a lecturer at Wright State University, sharing a full-time position between the departments of Psychology and NCBP (Neurobiology, Cell Biology and Physiology).

In 2016, the researcher organised an Ambassador Program - Animal Behavior - for students there, where they took part in summer classes at the University of Gdańsk's biological stations and the Gdańsk ZOO.

The programme helped build relationships and share experiences between Wright State University and the University of Gdańsk and continued annually until 2019 when further implementation was prevented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, using existing contacts, dr Michał Kraszpulski established another collaboration, this time with the Institute of English and American Studies at the University of Gdańsk. As part of the Collaborative Online International Learning programme, it was possible to virtually link the UG Public Speaking course with the WSU Drugs and Behavior course, creating an opportunity for Polish and American students to learn together, exchange ideas and collaborate.

'Yet another form of cooperation was direct teaching at UG,' - explains dr hab. Małgorzata Lipowska, prof. UG. - 'UG psychology students, participants in the Erasmus programme, conducted classes with dr Michał Kraszpulski in May 2022 and we hope to repeat them next year, as they were successful. The topics on addiction from an interdisciplinary perspective (biology+psychology) definitely suited the students' interests. We also hope to have revisits from our students at WSU,' - adds prof. Małgorzata Lipowska.

We congratulate the award winner!
