Joint research within the Climate Change Research Center at UMCS (opening next year) was one of the discussed subjects of the seminar titled ‘Climate Change – challenges and inspirations for science II’, held under the auspices of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk.

During the online seminar titled ‘Climate Change – challenges and inspirations for science II’, organized by the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS), participants discussed challenges and possibilities of conducting interdisciplinary research on climate change, including the creation of the organizational framework for dialog and cooperation in this matter, in the form of the intradepartmental UMCS unit, i.e. Climate Change Research Center. At the seminar, the University of Gdańsk was represented by prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski.

The seminar was organized within the scope of the project titled  ‘Ochrona środowiska w aspekcie zachodzących  zmian klimatu - wyzwania i inspiracja dla nauki’ (Environmental protection with respect to the ongoing climate change – challenges and inspirations for science) co-financed by the Voivodship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Lublin. The event was held under the auspices of His Magnificence Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski.

- Protecting the environment is a priority task for the entire mankind, not only for scientists. Climate change resulting from, among others, lack of respect for said environment – is a research area that interests me as a scientist but also as an inhabitant of Earth who anxiously look to the future. That is why such initiatives, like the one we undertake with UMCS, are so significant – namely incorporation of the Climate Change Research Center – stated Rector, Professor Piotr Stepnowski.

At the online meeting researchers representing various scientific disciplines declared readiness to conduct joint research on, broadly understood, climate change maters and its impact on natural environment and society, at the interdisciplinary, interinstitutional and international  levels.

The major objective of the seminar was to tighten UMCS’s scientific cooperation with other Polish and international research institutions within the newly established Climate Change Research Center at UMCS.
