The project: "Smart Control of the Climate Resilience in European Coastal Cities" (SCORE) managed by dr Jacek Barańczuk from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, University of Gdańsk, received funding from the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Program.

The main goal of the project will be to create a Coastal Cities Living Lab (CCLL) centre at the University of Gdańsk, where citizens, scientists, decision-makers and other stakeholders can work together to address specific challenges related to the threats of coastal cities.

‘CCLL's significant challenges will include real-time monitoring and diagnosing resilience and mitigating the estimated water, wind and other environmental impacts in the coastal areas of Gdansk city. Located in 10 European cities, CCLL will act as co-design and co-development centres’ says dr Jacek Barańczuk from the Department of Limnology of the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, University of Gdańsk.

Up-to-date models and forecasts of climate change, participatory processes, novel platforms in cities collecting heterogeneous data on local urban and environmental processes and their linkage between coastal cities will contribute to developing a new platform. It will foster a new approach and prototype solutions to improve climate resilience and manage it effectively at the local and regional level.

The SCORE project is conducted in a consortium of 28 partners chaired by the Institute of Technology Sligo in Ireland. At the University of Gdańsk, a research group will be supervised by dr Jacek Barańczuk from the Department of Limnology at the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography.

The amount of co-financing for the consortium is nearly EUR 10 million, including over EUR 266 thousand for the University of Gdańsk.
