University of Gdańsk signs agreement with PGI-NRI

The Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute and the University of Gdańsk have concluded an agreement on research and teaching cooperation. The management of both institutions recognises the need to take active measures for the development of Earth and environmental sciences and is convinced of the growing role of geological and environmental research in ensuring the security and development of the country. They declared their readiness to cooperate in the creation and implementation of joint research projects and broad education.

On behalf of the Polish Geological Institute, the agreement was signed by prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Szamałek, Director of the PGI-PIB. The University of Gdańsk was represented by Rector prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. The agreement was co-signed by the Director of the Marine Geology Branch of the PGI-NRI, dr Wojciech Jegliński , and the Dean of the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the UG, dr hab. Waldemar Surosz, prof. UG.

Within the framework of the agreement, PGI-NRI will provide the University of Gdańsk with access to scientific results and other materials for educational purposes and will create conditions for selected students of the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk to undertake professional practice. In addition, an opportunity has been created for final-year students and doctoral students to take up issues directly related to the scope of PGI-NRI's activities as part of their degree theses, with substantive support from the Institute's staff.

Experts from PGI-NRI can participate in didactic activities (giving lectures and workshops) at UG and will be given the opportunity to use research results, materials and other information gathered by the University. In addition to joint research projects and educational tasks, the expected results of the research and teaching cooperation are to be scientific publications and papers at conferences, as well as popular science lectures. In addition, the parties have pledged to cooperate in the organisation of workshops, seminars, exhibitions, conferences and scientific symposia with the participation of students.
