The Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk, together with Committee of Marine Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences organized the II Scientific Conference For Polish Marine Researchers on 24-25 September this year.
The main objective of the conference was to integrate Polish marine researchers’ society, coming from all aspects of oceanographic research (biology, chemistry, marine physics and geology, marine hydraulic engineering, marine protection, social and legal issues). Those aspects are the focus of research for several research institutions scattered around Poland. Marine environment state of the art and change trends were also the main points throughout the conference, but it was also dedicated to authorities’ representatives that deal with the sustainability of marine environment on all levels.
Conference gathered the vast majority of Polish marine researchers, around 300 people, which undoubtedly was an organizational success. That allowed the main objective of the conference to be achieved. The conference heard 93 speeches and saw 112 poster presentations. It also consisted of the plenary session for ten Young Marine Researchers, who competed for the Head of Committee of Marine Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences Award. The conference was complemented by the official dinner held in the Museum of Emigration, combined with visiting the museum’s permanent exhibition and the Gdańsk University, r/v Oceanograf Research Vessel moored at the French Quay.
